DuJour Magazine’s April cover party with Paris Hilton: A glam affair

Earlier this week, DuJour Magazine hosted a party at PH-D Lounge at Dream Downtown in Chelsea to celebrate its April cover star Paris Hilton. In addition to Paris, Nicky Hilton and Jason Binn were also in attendance. Guests enjoyed champagne and hors d’oeuvres such as mini cheeseburgers, tuna tartare, lobster salad, and beets with goat cheese. Jason Binn thanked guests for coming to the event, and gave a warm welcome to Paris Hilton. She spoke briefly about her interning days at Hamptons Magazine with Binn and how excited she was to be a part of DuJour’s April issue. Paris also spent a bit of time in the DJ Booth picking some of her favorite tunes and some of her own song mixes. The event was certainly swanky and made for a great night out on the town!

Swatch Club toasts its 25th anniversary in style

Recently, Swatch Club celebrated its 25th anniversary with a festive party at Marquee in Chelsea. Guests were able to view for the first time and purchase the 2015/16 Swatch Club watch called This Is My World. They also enjoyed watching a live artistic installation of a life-size watch, viewing previous editions of the Swatch Club watches, and getting flash tattoos. There was a raffle for the life-size watch as well as unique trips to other Swatch events. Guests were served an assortment of hors d’oeuvres that included shrimp, sushi, and pizza. June, one of the longest-standing members of the Swatch Club, spoke to the crowd about her passion for Swatch, and guests could certainly relate to her excitement. The number “25” was dispersed all over the venue via balloons and magnets, and the crowd definitely danced throughout the evening. What a fantastic celebration of fun, functional watches and a momentous occasion!

‘Life of Cats:’ A unique and historic art exhibit at the Japan Society

Recently, the Japan Society hosted a press preview for its newest exhibit, Life of Cats. The informative exhibit celebrates the importance of cats in Japanese culture that can be traced back to their arrival in Japan during the Asuka and Nara periods (538-794). It features a number of prints, paintings, and ceramics that showcase cats under the following themes: Cats and People, Cats as People, Cats versus People, Cats Transformed, and Cats and Play.  These themes demonstrate the profound symbolic roles that cats played in Japanese culture: protectors, friends, thieves, troublemakers, monsters, and so much more. All of the artistic pieces are remarkable, though my favorites include a painting called Asakusa Ricefields and Torinomachi Festival and a ceramic series of the Sleeping Cat.  Some images from the exhibit are feature down below. Life of Cats just opened today, March 13 at the Japan Society, and it will be be on display until June 7.  Definitely check out this entertaining, delightful exhibit!

A look at the VIP reception for ‘Monsters and Landscapes’

Last Friday, Ryan Piers Williams and his wife America Ferrera hosted a VIP reception to unveil his first solo art show, ‘Monsters and Landscapes,’ at The Garfield Building. Notable guests included Melonie Diaz, Amber Tamblyn, Huma Abedin, Alistair Banks Griffin, and Maritza Veer. Williams gave many guests a detailed tour of the exhibit, which explores the beauty and destructiveness of nature and human behavior. I had the opportunity to chat with Ryan about his impressive exhibit:

How did you go about picking the colors for your paintings?

I love color, and I feel like I love to explore color- the way colors fall in line with one other and also the different textures that you can use to bring out colors. These paintings are landscapes, images of people- [the colors] explore different emotions that I was feeling at the time. [I’m] trying to evoke an emotion in the viewer to bring you into my world.

What do you hope people get out of this exhibit?

I’m highlighting the interplay between humans and nature, and the way we interact with one another- the idea that we all have demons and we all have very beautiful aspects of ourselves as well. I’m hoping that people come away from it seeing that, and also recognizing that it’s a part of life to have both the passion and more of the different aspects of our human nature.

What an incredible exhibition! If you haven’t seen it yet, be sure to check it out before it closes on January 16.

Exhibit Announcement: ‘Monsters and Landscapes’ makes its New York debut

Hope your 2015 is off to a great start! As usual, New York’s art scene is actively thriving and has a great upcoming exhibit. Starting on January 10, acclaimed filmmaker and artist, Ryan Piers Williams will be presenting his first solo exhibition called ‘Monsters and Landscapes,’ which examines the duality of humans and nature. Inspired by his desire to discover and understand his own monsters and landscapes, Williams’ art serves to connect and reflect on the opposing forces that shape our world and our individual beings. ‘Monsters and Landscapes’ uses paint and photography to convey the different behaviors that humans and nature exude, whether they be beautiful or destructive. The exhibit is comprised of 4 themes, and one of them is called The DON’T MOVE series. This series is a detailed examination of our current society where there is a constant fear of being “shot down” both literally and figuratively. ‘Monsters and Landscapes’ is open to the public January 10 through January 16 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. daily at The Garfield Building on 142 Henry Street. For more information, visit  www.ryanpierswilliams.com. Definitely check this exhibit out!

Samsung Signature House: A perfect blend of upscale luxury and functionality

Recently, I was invited to take a tour of the Samsung Signature House near Union Square. It’s great to see Samsung continue its involvement with lifestyle experiences. The space is a gorgeous 3-floor penthouse furnished with upscale décor and state of the art kitchen appliances, TVs, audio speakers, laundry machines, and LED monitors.  Each room offers the highest level of comfort with ample space and manageable products. I’ll touch upon some highlights, but check the slideshow for additional features. The kitchen has a fascinating refrigerator called the Chef’s Collection Refrigerator, which has 4 French doors: 2 reserved for refrigeration and 2 reserved as freezers. It even has a display that lights up with the temperature of each compartment when the doors are open!  In the laundry room, there’s a 4.2 cu. ft. Front Load Washer with SuperSpeed, which can be controlled through your smartphone and it washes a full load of laundry in 36 minutes.

Another great feature in this space is an impeccable sound system created by the Samsung SHAPE™ Wireless Audio System, which includes an audio hub, speakers, and a curved soundbar. You can manage the system on your smartphone or tablet through the SHAPE™ Audio App so you can control where the audio is playing. The Smart TVs in the house, ranging from 55”-85,” are also extraordinary with spectacular picture quality, a built-in camera, and a full web browser, among other great features.

I can’t get over how functional and easy to use these products are! My other favorite product in the space was the 30 cu. ft 4-Door Refrigerator with FlexZone Drawer. It has ample food storage space and you can write notes, play music, and browse online recipes on an LCD Digital Display.

The idea behind this space is to make you feel at ease with having and managing products that fit with your lifestyle. These products are meant to become a part of your daily routine, but you’ll certainly get excited about using them all of the time instead of dreading them. Samsung is always on the cutting edge when it comes to technology, electronics, and home appliances. Be sure to visit www.samsung.com for even more products to check out!
