A look at the VIP reception for ‘Monsters and Landscapes’

Last Friday, Ryan Piers Williams and his wife America Ferrera hosted a VIP reception to unveil his first solo art show, ‘Monsters and Landscapes,’ at The Garfield Building. Notable guests included Melonie Diaz, Amber Tamblyn, Huma Abedin, Alistair Banks Griffin, and Maritza Veer. Williams gave many guests a detailed tour of the exhibit, which explores the beauty and destructiveness of nature and human behavior. I had the opportunity to chat with Ryan about his impressive exhibit:

How did you go about picking the colors for your paintings?

I love color, and I feel like I love to explore color- the way colors fall in line with one other and also the different textures that you can use to bring out colors. These paintings are landscapes, images of people- [the colors] explore different emotions that I was feeling at the time. [I’m] trying to evoke an emotion in the viewer to bring you into my world.

What do you hope people get out of this exhibit?

I’m highlighting the interplay between humans and nature, and the way we interact with one another- the idea that we all have demons and we all have very beautiful aspects of ourselves as well. I’m hoping that people come away from it seeing that, and also recognizing that it’s a part of life to have both the passion and more of the different aspects of our human nature.

What an incredible exhibition! If you haven’t seen it yet, be sure to check it out before it closes on January 16.
