Last month, I attended Toast 2019 and The Museum of Stupid Cancer at SECOND. Stupid Cancer is an organization that inspires the adolescent and young adult communities affected by cancer by building community. Shannon Black was the Toast 2019 Emcee and Honoree. She gave a heartfelt speech on her personal experience as well as her connection with the organization. Kenny Kane received the Stupid Cancer Community Recognition Award. Amgen received the Global Patient Advocacy Award. Lastly, Lauren Hoffman received the Stupid Cancer Ambassador Award. Sponsors for the event included Amgen, Newman Knight Mark Hopelab, Servier, Taconic Capital Advisors, and Ted Time Co.

The Museum of Stupid Cancer consisted of donated personal objects, original art, evidence and memories from loved ones. It also showcased highlights of the story of the organization. The experience both moved and fascinated me. There were so many detailed stories and interesting objects to view. These young cancer patients and survivors went through so much.  They were brave enough to share their personal experiences. All funds raised from the event went to the CancerCon 2020 Survivor Scholarship Fund.

Stupid Cancer serves a great purpose for the adolescent and young adult community affected by cancer. It offers innovative programming such as CancerCon, The Stupid Cancer Show, Stupid Cancer Summits, webinars, and more. These events are life-changing and foster meaningful relationships. Through continuous donations, the organization is able to continue thriving and making a difference. To learn more about Stupid Cancer and donate, visit stupidcancer.org. What an impactful organization!
