Unique events were definitely trending during NYFW. From art, to innovative runway shows, and to cocktail receptions, there was something for everyone. Here’s my round-up of the top 5, enjoy!

ZAZ10TS Exhibit

During NYFW, I attended a press preview for a show-stopping fashion exhibit in the lobby gallery at 10 Times Square. It’s called 10 Times Square: New York Fashion Rediscovered 1982-1997. The exhibit displays rare photographs of top supermodels and fashion designers from the 1980s and 1990s. Some of these figures include Anna Sui, Isaac Mizrahi, Ralph Lauren, Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, and Christy Turlington. The exhibit was made possible by gallery founder Tzili Charney, curator Ya’ara Keydar, and set designer Gaetane Bertol. The images capture the enthusiastic golden era of fashion and the garment district. The exhibition runs through January 20, 2020. How marvelous!

Anna Sui Exhibit

In addition, The World of Anna Sui opened at Museum of Modern Art & Design in Columbus Circle. Anna Sui is known for combining vintage inspiration with modern trends. This is her first major fashion retrospective that features 75 looks from her archives. The exhibit includes her 13 fashion archetypes such as: Punk, Rockstar, Schoolgirl, Nomad, and Fairytale. It also includes video footage of her runway shows and furniture from her apartment and studio. Jewelry, sunglasses, shoes, fragrances, and makeup from her brand are also on view. Lastly, viewers get an inside look at her creative process. What a remarkable exhibit!

Academy of Art University Graduate Fashion Show

Academy of Art University presented its annual show in Battery Park. It featured the collections from 9 graduate students with innovative vision and talented techniques. The students used vegan leather, wool, silk taffeta, cotton, denim, and twill in their collections. Highlights from the show included a teal vegan leather denim shirt with matching pants and a cross-chest bag; a black and white geometric silk dress with zippers; an olive taffeta jumpsuit paired with a mint green hoodie; and a blue and green wool and cotton mixed print top with plaid and houndstooth lining paired with plaid wool pants. So many innovative collections!

Cynthia Rowley

In the spirit of bringing fun to NYFW, Cynthia Rowley produced a runway show on a cobblestone street in the West Village. The theme was How Far Will You Go?, inspired by the Dr. Seuss book. Even the runway had Dr. Seuss illustrations. The collection featured vibrant colors, sequins, sexy silhouettes, and surfer outfits. It was playful, creative, feminine, and catchy. What a unique collection!

Orient International Holding Co. NYFW Reception

Another unique event during NYFW was an exclusive reception hosted by Orient International Holding Co. The event celebrated China’s participation in NYFW and promoted partner opportunities in China. Tong Jisheng of Orient International Holding Co, Zhuwei Ming of Shangtex, Shao Feng of Threegun, and Ji Shengyun of Lily attended the reception and gave speeches on behalf of their companies. Such a great networking opportunity!
