Pamella Roland and Artistry- two of my favorite creators that always come together for NYFW! It was a treat to attend the Pamella Roland SS20 runway show, and both brands did not disappoint. I had the opportunity to go backstage beforehand and see the Artistry makeup look come to life. The look was absolutely amazing: white eyeliner, gilded foil shadow, rose-colored lips, and glowing skin. It’s romantic and slightly dramatic, but not over the top. Rick DiCecca, Creative Director, Makeup Design for Artistry gave me insights on how the makeup was chosen and walked me through the look:
“It’s a contemporary, wearable look. The skin is very on trend, very glass-like. There’s shimmer on the lids which I think is going to continue to be a trend. We did a white eyeliner. People still want to do liners, but they’re are getting into using other colors besides black, brown, and grey. People want a punch of something. I think white works well on everybody. The cheeks and the lips are very natural. This particular look looks good on everybody. The look really transforms even on darker skins and lighter skins. The only thing we’re adjusting is the lip. It’s bright and fun.
“I chose the elements of the Bangkok collection that sort of went with luxurious- the gold foil on the lids, the sort of shock with white, those juicy rose-colored lips. When I saw what Pamella was doing as the natural evolution, they fit together really well. Bangkok is bountiful with so many different textures, colors, and sounds. I didn’t want to overpower the clothes, so we chose the shades and colors from Bangkok that complemented them. And we used the mascara from studio New York, one of the eyeshadows and the cheeks from studio Parisian. So we’re evolving as Pamella’s evolving.”
I also spoke to Elie Camoro, Lead Stylist at Fekkai about the hair look:
“We wanted a strong contrast to the makeup. so we went with a wet look which is pretty amazing to do with all of those elaborate dresses. We’re using Pure Natural Mist Spray to create the look. We’re combing it through and setting it with a very sleek middle part. Some of the girls have a side part, but most of them have the middle part. So it’s a very strong look.”
Following the backstage scene, the show began. I was completely blown away by the elegance, sleekness, and strong modernity. Pamella used ombre sequins, dyed pearls, 3D flowers, ostrich feather trim, and lace in her collection. My favorite looks included a fuchsia strapless sequin cocktail dress, a fuchsia and red floral Mikado halter gown with a sequin embroidered bodice; a blush pearl and sequin embroidered lace suit with a satin collar; a black embroidered lace gown with 3D pleated tulle petals; and a white lace ballgown wit 3D multi-colored lace appliqued bodice. I’ve also included a couple of other looks that I loved in the above gallery.
In conclusion, the Artistry x Pamella Rolland partnership is special, as the 2 brands always come together to create something amazing. I’m so fortunate to have experienced this year’s magic. What a wonderful celebration of color, textures, evolution, and romance!
