NYFW F/W 2018 Recap 1: Originality takes the spotlight

This season’s NYFW featured a number of inspirational elements. One of them was originality: from how an event was presented to the clothing designs on display. Take a look at a few of my F/W 2018 highlights below:

Fashion’s Night In

To kick off NYFW, YRB Magazine and Style Is Law Agency presented Fashion’s Night In with E! Network’s Diandra Barnwell as the event’s host. The event provided an intimate setting for networking and welcoming Fashion Week F/W 2018. It took place at the private mansion gallery of Margo Feiden Galleries, a Greenwich Village landmark. What an absolutely stunning venue! Guests included a mix of designers, influencers, and tastemakers such as Raekwon from the Wutang Clan, Project Runway alum Layana Aguilar, Mo Hussein of Chala Hair, Fox’s Empire star Jeremy Carver, Ford model Millen Magese, and celebrity designer Alhassan Toure. They were treated to hors d’oeuvres by Garth Cheese, The Stylish Chef.

Guests also enjoyed a a presentation with models wearing Angel Ayala Couture dresses and Chala Hair, premium natural remy human hair extensions. I loved the vibe in the venue- such a sense of unity and a great mix of fashion, beauty, and lifestyle!

Kaer Brooklyn

Kaer Brooklyn showcased its F/W 2018 collection at Galleria Ca’d’ Oro in Chelsea with a live photo shoot. Marianne Møllmann, the brand’s designer, uses urban nature photographs from Denmark and New York for inspiration in her designs. Her collection has a retro vibe with a focus on accessorizing. I love the vibrant prints, the head scarves, and the alluring sunglasses. The looks were paired with lace-up heels and clear booties. The mod look is definitely showstopping with its invigorating appeal.

My favorite looks included a anemone flower dress with a mock turtleneck, a black orchid top paired with pink orchid pants, a pink orchid bomber jacket paired with a orchid polka dot dress, a pink orchid turtleneck paired with a black orchid jumper, and a pink orchid off the shoulder top over a metallic stretch dress. So many creatively stunning pieces!

Planet Fashion Trend Collective

Planet Fashion TV presented a number of brands in a runway show at Midtown Loft & Terrace. The show started with The Dress Rehearsal by Apeksha Shah and Tejal Kothari, a blend of traditional Indian influence with modern urban designs. Next, Lindsay Nichols showcased her brand that designs clothes which inspire and compliment a contemporary lifestyle. Starlife Fashion Co. by Steven Shipley followed with its men’s activewear line that embodies cultural unity. Lastly, Olmaia by Federico Signorelli closed out the show with its Italian luxury men’s swimwear designed with high quality and natural materials.

Each brand had so many great pieces. My favorite looks included a navy draped one sleeve dress from The Dress Rehearsal; a grey strapless top paired with matching culottes from Lindsay Nichols; a white, black and grey hoodie over a dark grey patterned t-shirt paired with grey sweatpants decorated with stars from Starlife Fashion Co.; and grey patterned swim shorts paired with a lavender shirt from Olmaia. What a great mix of collections!
